Nordic Church Aid (NCA) now known as Finn Church Aid (FCA) is a humanitarian organization that originated in the Nordic countries and focuses on providing emergency assistance, development cooperation, and advocacy for social justice. Founded in the aftermath of World War II, NCA has since worked in various global crises, including conflicts, natural disasters, and humanitarian emergencies.
During the Biafran Civil War (1967–1970), Nordic Church Aid played a significant role in the humanitarian response to the crisis. As the conflict led to widespread famine and suffering due to the Nigerian government’s blockade of Biafra, NCA mobilized to provide essential aid to the affected populations. They coordinated efforts to deliver food, medical supplies, and other necessities to the starving and displaced communities, particularly focusing on the needs of children and vulnerable families.
In addition to immediate relief efforts, NCA also worked to raise awareness of the humanitarian situation in Biafra, advocating for increased international support for the relief efforts. By collaborating with other humanitarian organizations and church networks, Nordic Church Aid contributed to the global response to the Biafran crisis, demonstrating its commitment to alleviating human suffering during one of Africa’s most tragic conflicts. Their work helped to highlight the critical role that faith-based organizations can play in responding to humanitarian emergencies.
